New Post: Specific folder migration from SVN 2 TFS2010

There are scenarios where a SVN repository has a lot of inner folder structure, we need to migrate only specific folder from SVN to TFS. we have seen that internal error comes during migration activity.

If the SVN folder or file url is beyond 256 character, TFS does not allow importing of structure beyond this 256 character limit. The tool should guide them to sub branch the folder url.

Hello,

i'm trying to do an import from SVN repository, for now i tried to im- and export 3 different repositories, but as result I get 2 kinds of error log results:

1.) " 0 is not a valid changeset number. Please specify a number between 1 and 2147483647".

also sometimes I get the following one:

2.) "there is added already an item with the same key"

Does anyone had any of these error messages, and so, do you have any suggestion how to fix these??

I'm having the same issue. While I'm not sure it's relevant, I use TortiseSVN in Windows and AnkhSVN in Visual Studio against a VisualSVN server. I'm trying to migrate to TFS Express and I'm running into this issue.

Hello,

I tried the tool with 2 repositories, and with every import I see the following messages multiple times:

4 / 9 r5: svn update... tfs replay... branch from r2... [Warning: No matching items found in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\svn2tfs_634899538146828243_tfs\trunk\src\folder\filename.cs at the specified version, or you do not have permission to access them.] [Warning: The item C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\svn2tfs_634899538146828243_tfs\src\folder\filename.cs could not be found in your workspace, or you do not have permission to access it.] tfs checkin... imported 38 actions to cs171 in 6,3''.

At the end of the import these files can not be found in TFS.

I noticed that in the first warning the folder "/trunk" is included, and the second time anymore. Related? I import /trunk (svn) into \Dev\Src (tfs.visualstudio.com).

Someone, any idea?

How to create an user xml when the SVN users and the TFS users are in a different Domain. Is it important to name the domains anywhere in the xml?

Disable your anti-virus. Chances are your Anti-virus software will want to scan every file accessed, downloaded etc. You're pulling down a copyfrom SVN and TFS then diffing the two between commits, that's quite a few thousand files your Anti-Virus is scanning between commits.

I have an svn repository that is a mess (I think). We have http://url/branches/myproject (which is the stuff I want) and http://url/trunk and http://url/tags - both of which I dont want.

I cant get svn2tfs to work.

I set the url to http://url and the path to /branches/myproject.

When it checks out r1 (\branches) nothing appears in the temp folder and it then it fails checking that the file or path exists. The call to client.Checkout is not reporting any errors or warnings.

I've patched the tfsReplayAction method to remove the .Remove part - no improvement.

Ive tried using a later version of SharpSVN (we are on svn 1.7) - no improvement.

I can use Turtoise on the temp folder to update and it works just fine.

Any help very welcome!

Hi,

I had the exact same problem. The solution is that you need to create the folder(s) you've specified in the TFS settings.

The reason for this is that the TFS workspace that svn2tfs creates tries to map $/<project>/<your>/<folder> to the local folder. If that folder does not exist in the repository, no local folder is created either.

i commeneted the .remove(0,svndirectory.length), it started working and i am able to do migration.

kindly check if you can patch it up wit the utility.

Hi Rag,

unfortunately, the tool suffers some string manipulation problem, but as far as I know they are related to the *sub*-path, not to the base-path of SVN. Some users have provided a patch for that problem (see for example http://svn2tfs.codeplex.com/workitem/11142). However, this does not seem to be your problem. Without detailed debug information (such as stack trace and local variables) I am not able to investigate in your problem. Following the instructions I gave you before you will be able to stop the debugger when the "Index out of bound" exception is thrown.

kindly share the steps to resolve the issue. i have provided the base repository path of subversion, still the "Index and count must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: count" error is coming.

while debugging not able to identify the component leading to have this exception.

i am able to resolve the key issue, now while initiating migration it shows the below error.

Index and count must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: count - i am not able to find the lication of this parameter in code.

while i was analyzing i found that the svn check - basically verifying the url and mapped users from xml. Click of validate svn is searching for involved users keeps on waiting. is there a standard delay to fetch the users details from SVN.

because if which i am not able to go click the import method. to check for the key issue today.
