Item already exists in TFS during import

I am trying to migrate a repository of size - 1gb looks like the tool threw exception after 40 versions (40 of 3694). It reports a dll within svn which is already existing in TFS which is not true since this is a first time migration. Is there something wrong?

Hi, thank you for issuing this bug.

The ploblem is due to the fact that when the tool tries to reproduce revision 41, SVN tells it needs to add Telerik.Web.UI.dll to the repository.
For some reason the file already exists. We need you to investigate this from your side as we don't have the SVN repository.

I think the reason can be one of these:
1) The TFS repository is not empty when starting the tool and already contains that file. Just writing it to be sure this is not the case ;)
2) TFS adds the file in one of the previous revision import and it is not supposed to do it. To find out this you should put a breakpoint in Importer.vb in the tfsReproduceRevision method in order to find out if and in what revision the file is added to TFS. Then you can easily find out in which svnLog.Changes action the operation occurs and tell if the behaviour is right or if the tool misinterpret the change.
3) SVN library / SVN importer gives the tool erroneous information: take a look if the file existed in the revision 40 in SVN.
4) Adding a file that already exists in permitted in your SVN server. That would be weird. :)

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks for looking into this, sid2k. Here is the update for the resolutions you had mentioned earlier.
1 - TFS repository is empty without any files in it (except the process template files)
2 - svn2tfs creates temporary repository and looks like there's something going on with the files stored here. Not sure of how the content is dumped here.

Also, please see the error details mentioned in the screenshot attached.

I would appreciate if you could help me in resolving this issue.

What is svn2tfsError1.JPG about? How could you reach r566 if it was exiting on r41?

I had put an exception block in order to have the process continue with next steps. Let me know if I could send you the log file to you. Thank you

It looks like the folders/files were deleted on SVN but the previous revisions of the deleted folder/files were not cleared. So the previous revisions still remain in SVN. And since the migration tools picks the revisions (history) from level 1 to HEAD (current level) we get the duplicates, etc.

Is this right?
What could be solution to this?
In SVN, how to clear all revisions of the previously deleted files and folders?
